Meliss Ellish Varnado is a native of Abita Springs, LA. She attended Angelina College in Lufkin, TX, and received an Associate's Degree in Nursing in 2002. While working in the Emergency Department of St. Tammany Parish Hospital over the last 9 years, Melissa attended Loyola University. She received a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing in 2008 and was inducted into the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau, and completed a Master of Science Degree in Nursing in 2011. She is a member of the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Melissa's interest in the complexities of childhood obesity and diabetes inspired her to work for Children's International Medical Group. Her experience includes the care of infants and elderly with acute or chronic diseases, minor to life threatening emergencies, GYN, and traums patients.

Melissa and her husband, Casey, have a son, Aiden, a pup named Scooby Doo, and a very fat cat, Basil.
